Sunday 2 may, Sion, fifth and last stage of the Tour of Romandie, Alejandro Valverde conquests the yellow jersey in a final sprint.
Valverd had already gained a second and a third place during the tour and was the leader of the general classification , with 11 seconds of advantage on Simon Spilak and 21 seconds on Dennis Menchov.

The fifth stage of the tour cover all the French speaking western part of Switzerland. In this edition, with very hard climbs and adverse weather, the Caisse d’Erpagne’s biker monted the podium with Igor Anton, second one, and Simon Spilak, the third, after 121 hard km.

Valverde leaved the group behind 25 km from the finishing line, followed only by Menchov and Spilack, and they catched up Anton, who leaded the race. The cold and the rain didn’t stop the Spanish, with his Dogma Pinarello, who sprang at last 500 m and won raising his arms to the sky.
This is the 67th success for Valverde, who is now the leader of the Uci Pro Tour ranking, as his team the Caisse d'Epairgne, lead the team ranking.
